Judy (Cert 12A)

Dir Rupert Goold      UK 2019        118 mins

Renée Zellweger is phenomenally good in this captivating account of Judy Garland’s final London concert run.

The film takes up the story of showbiz legend in the winter of 1968 when Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform in a sell-out run at The Talk of the Town.  It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz but, if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown.  Yet Judy is fragile and haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood and longing to be back home with her kids.  Will she have the strength to go on?

The film also stars Rufus Sewell and Michael Gambon.

Barnstormers present

Novel by Michelle Margorian. Adapted by David Wood.

The Barnstormers have chosen an engaging adaptation of the children’s novel ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ for this year’s autumn production.

Set at the beginning of the 2nd world war, the story focusses on a young evacuee who forms an unlikely friendship with the elderly recluse ‘Mr Tom’ who he finds himself living with. It soon becomes apparent that both characters have had sad histories, but through a growing trust and understanding – as well as the mutual love of a loyal sheepdog – they eventually both find healing and happiness.

Featuring a large cast, including 7 children who are new to the Regal stage, this promises to be another special production from this award-winning local drama company.

Not suitable for very young children
