Volunteering at the Regal Theatre is a unique experience where you could be part of an amazing theatre in the heart of your local community.

In 2020 our dedicated team of Regal Volunteers were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.

We can offer a wide variety of exciting volunteering roles to match your specific skills or take the opportunity to learn something completely new with a friendly and supportive team. From Front of House, the Bar, Box Office, Technical Team or backstage with productions. Certain roles mean you could work from home if that was your preference, such as Marketing, Finance, Press and Publicity.

2024 is the Regal’s 90th Anniversary – we have big plans, and need some extra volunteers to help!

We want to reach more people to let them know what’s going on at the Regal and encourage them to join in with our celebrations and enjoy the brilliant shows planned this year. That’s where you come in! Specifically:

Social Media Volunteers – help us increase our social media presence and coverage by joining our Social Media Team, to contact and engage with those platforms we aren’t on yet and increase our presence on the whole social media scene.

Publicity Volunteers – to send regular (weekly/monthly) information about our shows and events to local newspapers and magazines to ensure The Regal is constantly is the public eye and kept informed of planned shows and their dates etc

Company Secretary – a volunteer with the confidence and experience to guide and support the Board of Trustees through the legal responsibilities required for the MATA Regal Theatre Company Ltd to operate effectively and be fully compliant with the Companies Act 2006 and Charity Commission regulations.

Volunteering Opportunities

Assistant(s) to the Building, Maintenance and IT Systems Manager: Helping with either the electrical, plumbing or IT systems.

Press Officer: Writing and sending out copy to regional media, etc.

Box Office Staff: To cover morning or afternoon openings in the box office, selling tickets and answering enquiries.

General Admin: helping various departments with admin for ad hoc projects as and when they arise.

Bar: Serving refreshments on performance days.

Get-in / Get-out Assistants: for Get in/Get-outs: as part of a team, helping visiting professional companies to unload and transport their equipment, scenery, props etc. into and out of the auditorium.

Brochure Editor: and a team of volunteers: to help produce our ‘What’s on Brochure’ to publicize forthcoming performances and events.

Publicity Officer: plus a team of volunteers: to write and release publicity, to keep the theatre in the public eye and promote its place at the heart of the community.

Projection Assistant: with the Regal Film Society: to support and facilitate screening digital films, as well as live streaming events from The Royal Opera House and other venues.

Front of House: Meeting and greeting audiences taking tickets and selling programmes on the night of performances.

Technical: Working to set up sound and lights for performances and managing the sound and lighting desks during the performance.

Set Building: To join a regular team which designs, builds and paints sets for MATA company productions.
