Directed by Oscar-winner Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tony Kushner, this new screen adaptation of the 1957 musical West Side Story is just about as good as it gets and has been enthusiastically and warmly received by critics and audiences alike.

West Side Story, originally conceived by Jerome Robbins with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by the great Stephen Sondheim, is set in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York and was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.  It tells the story of two lovers who belong to rival street gangs.

This brand-new production stars Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose and Rita Moreno, who also starred in the iconic 1961 original film version.  It is conducted by the charismatic Gustavo Dudamel, a product of the extraordinary Venezuelan musical education programme El Sistema, and music director of the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Opéra national de Paris.
