Brie Larson won a string of major awards, including an Oscar and BAFTA, for her performance in Room, a remarkable and life-affirming film adapted by screenwriter Emma Donoghue from her own best-selling novel.

Winner of the Oscar for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Room tells the story of a young woman who has been kidnapped and imprisoned in a 10ft x 10ft room where she and her young son Jack, played to perfection by seven-year-old Jacob Tremblay, are forced to live in captivity by sinister abductor ‘Old Nick’.

While much of the film is set within the confines of a room, it focuses on how the human spirit may transcend physical boundaries and the disparity between external and internal freedom.

A heartbreaking tale of the power of motherly love and of a nurtured child’s ability to find light in the dark woods of the adult world.’  Mark Kermode, The Guardian.
