Testament of Youth (Cert 12A)

Dir: James Kent     UK 2014     130 mins

This adaptation of Vera Brittain’s much-loved autobiography gives a powerful and moving account of how the first world war cut through the lives of a whole generation.  Liberal Democrat peer Baroness Shirley Williams’s mother Vera Brittain was about to go up to Oxford to read English when the war broke out, but when her fiancé and her brother enlist, she opts instead to become a volunteer nurse, working on the Western Front.  A story of love, loyalty and loss, beautifully told.

An all-star cast includes Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Emily Watson, Haley Atwell, Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor

Numbered tickets for Testament of Youth may be booked in advance costing £2.50 for members and £4.50 for non-members.  Besides free sparkling wine, to mark the end of the film society’s season, fresh Miles coffee and cake from Toucan Wholefoods will be available from 7 pm onwards.

Tickets will be available from the box office from the 14th March and are not bookable on line.
