A comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert.
The story goes that an ornamental Japanese sword fell off the wall in Gilbert’s study and inspired him to think up a Japanese plot for his next collaboration with Sullivan.
And inspired he surely was – this evergreen work is stuffed full of lovely tunes, witty lines and unforgettable characters and has been a staple of professional and amateur musical groups since it was written in 1885.
A strong cast of principals and chorus under musical director Sam Baker will take the stage in a witty production by Hilary Marshall and Catherine Payne, for the delight of audiences all over the county.
