This is a new production by Pleasure Dome Theatre Company. It’s a well-known true story about how on the evening of the 12th of January, 1899, the communities of Lynmouth and Porlock rallied in a raging storm to save all the souls of the foundering ship, the Forest Hall. Together they carried the heavy lifeboat thirteen miles across open moor to launch it from Porlock Weir and saved everyone on board.
They have turned this into a piece of theatre using 5 actors multi-roling to tell this inspiring tale. It will be a visceral, punchy and dynamic play using physical theatre and Sea Shanties.
Research has been conducted using historical archives in Lynton Town Hall and we have interviewed the descendants of those who were involved. Our project partners, the RNLI, are creating a short film that will be played in the halls and atriums of our performance venues.
LOUISA will provide an uplifting evening at the theatre celebrating the culture and heritage of the South West. We hope everyone will leave energised and hopeful about what can be achieved when people work together.
