GA GA - A Tribute to Queen

An ambitious and sumptuously filmed English language adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Márquez’s epic novel, set in Colombia at the turn of the 19th Century, tells the story of a man’s lifelong passion for a woman who marries another man. Javier Bardem plays the traditional romantic hero and Benjamin Bratt his rival, a man of science who belongs to the new century.  The performance is open to the public, and tickets cost £2 for members and £4 for non-members.

Cinema enthusiasts Robert and Edward Taylor allow us a unique opportunity to view an item from their vast collection of vintage films with a Super 8 copy of Evergreen starring Jessie Matthews. The show also includes a 35mm Gazette report showing the opening of the Regal.

Evergreen was one of the best musicals made in Britain during the 1930s. An escapist fantasy of a young ingenue becoming a star remains one of Matthews’ best and enduringly popular screen appearances, mostly due to Saville’s sensitive but firm direction.Jessie Matthews captured the hearts of the World in her musical comedy performances, on stage, film, radio, and television. She was also the most popular British radio soap star in the 1960’s as Mrs Dale in “Mrs Dale’s Diaries”.

At Northanger Abbey Catherine’s over-active imagination causes her two worlds to collide as fantasy gets in the way of reality. Can she separate the two?

The Dorset Corset Theatre Company is set to thrill audiences this autumn with their new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Northanger Abbey. With live music, knockabout comedy and terrific performances this production is a great night out for all the family.

Harker becomes extremely nervous when all of the local peasants react in fear after they hear of his destination; nevertheless, he continues on to the castle until he meets an emissary of the Count in the Borgo Pass. The mysterious coach driver continues on to the castle, arriving in pitch darkness, to the accompaniment of howling wolves. Thus…it begins.

This production is not suitable for children, people of a sensitive nature and those with an allergy to garlic.
