In the face of death-threats, Mehta completed her elemental trilogy with this beautiful and powerful drama about the Hindu practice of segregating widows as penitents in special homes. Set in 1938, as Ghandi rose to power, the film follows the fate of a widowed eight-year old girl. Subtitled.
