West Country Tour 2012
SPONSORED BY JOHN LEWIS, CRIBBS CAUSEWAY
www.oldvic.ac.uk

Stella Gibbons’ Cold Comfort Farm has found a place in the hearts of many devotees of the comic English novel, parodying as it does the romantic stories of D H Lawrence and Mary Webb. In Paul Doust’s hilarious stage play, the heroine, Flora Poste, embarks upon a quest to discover her family’s roots, and as a result the “nice girl from London” meets the rough and ready Starkadders of Cold Comfort Farm.

Who can fail to enjoy her meeting the likes of evil old Aunt Ada Doom, the fey Elfine and the smouldering Seth. Come with us into a world where there’s something nasty in the woodshed, where porridge pulsates with the latent lust of rural romance, and the Sukebind draws you ever closer into an intrigue that will keep you gripped and laughing in equal measure.
Bristol Old Vic Theatre School brings you the “Stars of Tomorrow in a Play for Today.”

TICKETS: Adults £9.50, Friends £9.00, ES40’s/Students £4.00

This year’s surprise hit which swept the boards at the award ceremonies, winning five Oscars and seven BAFTAs, is a loving homage to the silent era.

Made in black and white, the film is set in 1927 and tells the story of George Valentin, the screen idol of an entire nation. When Valentin meets aspiring starlet Peppy Miller on set he is immediately smitten, but with the advent of sound George’s fortunes begin to wane as Peppy’s star rises.

The Artist is visually stunning and a hugely likeable film. Stars Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo with a scene stealing performance from Uggie the dog.

Regal Film Society members’ priority booking period from Tuesday April 10 to Saturday April 21. Tickets go on sale to the public from Monday April 22. Tickets cost £2.50 for film society members and £4.50 for non-members.

Has Sweeney Todd some grounds for his nefarious activities? Revenge for the rape of his wife and the abduction of his daughter by the same Judge that had him deported on a false charge? Is this a recipe for disaster? After all, revenge is not always sweet. Intertwined in these dark deeds is a sweet love affair. Will it come through in the end?

The main orchestra was founded in 1956 in Usseln, Germany, but later moved to Korbach, where they are based today and are led by conductor Hans C. Petersen.
