A Chip in the Sugar, Cream Cracker Under the Settee, Her Big Chance, Bed Among the Lentils
In Talking Heads Bennett takes uncelebrated, often downtrodden lives and, without condescension, gives them dignity. None of the protagonists have power or influence or wealth; there is denial, decline and ignorance here, but also irony, pure and delicious. The voices in Talking Heads are as real and alive as any in modern writing and show Alan Bennett at his best. We see, in these monologues his obsession with the minutiae of life, those endless mundanities which form the fabric of human experience; indeed Bennett owes much to his ability to read what Michael Palin has called “the small print of everyday life”.
Barnstormer award winning actors in an evening of perceptive readings served with a glass of wine and some nibbles included in the price.
